Vietnamese Moon Festival at VSL West 1
03 October, 2021

As part of the Moon Festival celebrations at the Footscray, Altona North and Sunshine centres, the primary Vietnamese students participated in a variety of Moon Festival online activities recently.

As I visited the Vietnamese classes I was made to feel very welcome and I was delighted to see students being engaged in many activities such as singing and storytelling. Some classes watched the dragon dance being performed online, whilst others watched how to make lanterns on YouTube. Some students sang the Mid-Autumn Festival song and others watched the online children’s lantern parade. Students in all classes I visited were eager to show me their lanterns and moon cakes. The anticipation and excitement on the children’s faces captured the essence of the Moon Festival itself:  it is truly an important time for the enjoyment of family life, especially during this challenging and unprecedented time of lockdown due to COVID-19.
