Creative Activities During Lockdown

The lockdown period may have been a taxing time for students and teachers, but credit needs to be given to them for their commitment and creative teaching solutions. Here is one example from Italian teacher Cinzia Curini.
During Remote Learning, I tried to keep my year 3 and 4 Italian learners engaged and motivated through the use of creative activities and story telling. Having learnt about the topic 'food' in Term 2, in Term 3 we discovered a fairy tale in Italian, La zuppa di sasso, by Anaïs Vaugelade, where the animals cook and have dinner together.
We listened to it through a clip on youtube and after some reading comprehension activities we used the text to read it fully, practising pronunciation and intonation. The students learnt to read it together in Zoom's breakout rooms and every week they rehearsed, taking the roles of the characters and the narrator. The young learners also worked at a portfolio piece: I asked them to draw the scenes of the story and write dialogues in the boxes, creating a comic strip.
