Spanish Excursion to MIFF
09 September, 2018
A group of Year 11 Spanish students from VSL Distance Education attended the Melbourne International Film Festiva (MIFF)l on Wednesday 15 August to watch the film “The Other Side of the Wall” – a docudrama about a Honduran migrant family stuck in Mexico on their way to the USA. The film explored themes like the family unit, gender roles, resilience, injustice, poverty and migration. A number of Spanish students from other schools also attended, including Wantirna Secondary College and Melbourne Girls Grammar. After watching the film, students enjoyed a Mexican lunch at a nearby restaurant. There was even enough time to go to the State Library to see two exhibits there, which included Ned Kelly´s body armour. Students enjoyed this non-compulsory excursion, and they will review the film in one of the upcoming Worksets. The film may also be useful for their Detailed Study next year.
